On January 14, in the Oranjekerk in the van Ostadestraat, Refugee Meetup helped with the organisation of one of the oldest folk holidays in Eastern Europe – the Malanka festival.
Malanka usually combines Christian and pagan traditions. Ukrainians believed that on January 13 and 14 good and evil spirits descend on earth. To ward off the evil spirits before the New Year, the night was spent dancing, feasting on ceremonial meals, fortune-telling, casting spells, and singing carols.
Our Malanka festival united the Ukrainian art and music community with Dutch people. Together we created an authentic cultural experience!
The programme included:
✴ Christmas and New Year carols performed by the Ukrainian choir “Makivka”
✴ DJ sets by Ukrainian and Dutch artists
✴ an art fair and Ukrainian Artisans Market
✴ natural wine and cheese tasting
✴ other pleasant surprises
We want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who was in one way or another involved in organizing this festival: Yulia and Borys, the volunteers, chefs, musicians and DJs, Gijs-Bert and his people at the Oranjekerk, and every one of you who came to share the evening with us.
We feel truly blessed to have been able to share the night with you to listen traditional and modern Ukrainian music, to drink tea at a real chinese tea ceremony, to try natural wine and cheese and to enjoy yummy Ukrainian dishes.
Thanks to our Dutch and Ukrainian partners who came and helped to create an atmosphere of friendship and affection. Apart from having fun, we can all be proud of the financial result: we raised an amazing €5,975.60 to support Ukraine, and the profits will be shared between RefugeesMeetup, who support Ukrainian refugees in Amsterdam, and GettogetherforUkraine, who support Ukrainians in Ukraine.
14 січня в Oranjekerk (Van Ostadestraat 151) пройшло одне з найстаріших гулянь Східної Європи – свято Маланки.
Зазвичай Маланка поєднує християнські та язичницькі традиції. Українці вірили, що 13-14 січня добрі та злі духи сходять на землю. Щоб відвернути нечисть перед Новим роком, ніч проводили в танцях, частувалися обрядовими трапезами, ворожили, чаклували, співали колядки.
Наша Маланка об’єднала українську мистецьку і музичну спільноту з голландськими активістами. Разом ми створили автентичний культурний досвід!
Програма включала:
✴️ різдвяні та новорічні колядки у виконанні українського хору «Маківка»
✴️ DJ-сети українських та голландських виконавців
✴️ арт-ярмарок та Ukrainian Artisans Market
✴️ дегустація натурального вина та сиру
✴️ інші приємні несподіванки
Ми з гордістю і задоволенням хочемо сказати величезне ДЯКУЄМО всім причетним до організації цього фестивалю: Юлії, Борису, волонтерам, кухарям, музикантам, діджеям, Gijs-Bert та його помічникам в Oranjekerk — кожному з вас, хто прийшов на святкування у цей вечір.
Нам теж було радісно провести з вами ніч, послухати традиційну та сучасну українську музику, випити чаю на справжній китайській чайній церемонії, спробувати натуральне вино та сир, насолодитися смачними українськими стравами.
Дякуємо нашим голландським та українським партнерам, які прийшли та допомогли створити дружню та щиру атмосферу. Крім цього, ми всі молодці, бо зібрали 5975,60 євро на підтримку України. Гроші будуть розділені між благодійними організаціями RefugeeMeetup, яка опікується біженцями з України в Амстердамі, та GettogetherforUkraine, яка підтримує українців в Україні.
